  • Posisi pekerjaan yang kamu lamar dan bagaimana kamu menemukan lowongan kerja tersebut

Kamu bisa menyebutkan posisi pekerjaan yang kamu lamar dan juga menyebutkan bagaimana kamu menemukan lowongan kerja tersebut. Hal ini dapat kamu lakukan dengan menyebutkan keinginanmu atau ketertarikanmu terhadap pekerjaan pada kalimat pembuka. Misalnya seperti ini:

Hal itu menunjukkan bahwa cover letter yang kamu baca merupakan satu dari ratusan cover letter yang sampai pada perekrut. Dengan begitu, penting untuk membuat cover letter yang kamu tulis menonjol dibandingkan dengan cover letter dari pelamar lainnya.

Cover letter

1.       Riset dan Brainstorming Terlebih Dahulu

Sebelum kamu menulis cover letter, kenali terlebih dahulu dirimu dengan peran dan kebutuhannya. Bacalah tentang job listing dengan saksama dan catat informasi yang paling penting, seperti kemampuan spesifik yang dibutuhkan.

Kemudian kamu juga bisa mencari tahu lebih lanjut ke website perusahaan untuk mengetahui budaya kerja, nilai dan misi yang terdapat pada perusahaan tersebut.

Ketika kamu sudah melakukan riset dan memahami berbagai macam hal terkait perusahaan dan pekerjaan, kamu bisa melakukan brainstorming. Karena brainstorm adalah cara paling efektiv untuk mengkomunkasikan kesesuaian kemampuanmu untuk pekerjaan di cover letter.

2.       Beri Sapaan secara Personal

Hal pertama yang disadari oleh perekrut atau hiring manager dalam cover letter adalah sapaan yang kamu tulis di cover letter. Apakah sapaan tersebut ditujukan kepada mereka secara personal atau tidak.

Maksudnya adalah, penting untuk kamu menulis sapaan secara personal atau menyebutkan langsung nama perekrut atau hiring manager. Namun tentu saja terkadang kamu sulit menemukan nama-nama mereka.

Jika nama-nama mereka tidak ditemukan dalam job posting, cobalah untuk menggunakan waktu yang kamu miliki untuk mencarinya di website perusahaan atau LinkedIn.

3.       Menarik Perhatian Perekrut

Seperti halnya ketika menulis buku, penulis harus menarik perhatian pembacanya dalam beberapa halaman pertama, cover letter yang kamu buat harus menarik perhatian dalam kalimat pertamanya.

Yang harus kamu pahami dan ingat kembali adalah rekruter akan membaca banyak cover letter yang mungkin memiliki inti yang sama dengan cover letter milikmu. Oleh karena itu, penting untuk membuat kalimat pertama yang menarik perhatian rekruter.

Yang penting, pastikan apa yang kamu tulis sesuai dengan peran pekerjaan yang kamu cari.

4.       Tunjukkan Kelebihan dan Kemampuan yang Paling Bersangkutan

Selanjutnya kamu bisa menunjukkan kelebihan dan kemampuan yang kamu miliki. Nah, sebaiknya kamu menulis dalam bentuk paragraf dan cerita saat kemampuanmu digunakan. Karena kalau kamu menulis dalam bentul list hal tersebut sudah dilakukan di resume dan di CV.

Gunakan teknik yang sama saat kamu menarik perhatian rekruter di bagian pertama. Misalnya kamu menuliskan tentang pencapaian kerjamu yang paling besar. Lalu kamu bisa menunjukkan apa yang sudah kamu lakukan untuk pekerjaan tersebut untuk mencapai hasil yang spesifik.

5.       Buatlah Surat Tersebut untuk Rekruter

Mungkin kamu cukup bingung dengan maksud membuat surat untuk rekruter. Nah, yang dimaksud dengan hal itu adalah mengkomunikasikan keuntungan yang kamu berikan kepada rekruter sebagaimana mereka melakukannya kepadamu.

Rekruter tidak hanya mencari orang yang dapat bekerja saja. Tetapi juga mencari orang yang cocok dengan budaya kerja mereka. Untuk itu, kamu bisa menyesuaikan gaya tulisanmu dengan orang yang dicari oleh perekrut.

Jika salah seorang pemberi pekerjaan di tempatmu sekarang memberikanmu referensi pekerjaan, sebutkanlah di cover letter. Tapi jangan hanya menyebutkan namanya saja. Sebutkan juga kenapa kamu direkomendasikan di tempat baru dalam satu sampai dua kalimat.

6.       Tujukkan Antusiasmu Terhadap Pekerjaan yang Kamu Lamar

Kata-kata yang kamu pilih dalam cover letter menunjukkan semangatmu dalam melamar pekerjaan tersebut. Saat kamu menunjukkan pencapaian, pastikan kamu menggunakan kata-kata spesifik. Perhatikan contoh ini:

  • I was a manager to a team of four salespeople.
  • I ran a nimble sales department.

Atau, perhatikan juga contoh ini:

  • After sixteen years as a bank teller, I decided I’d rather be an electrician.
  • After more than a decade as a bank teller, I pivoted to a new career and began my electrical apprenticeship.

Dengan kata-kata seperti “ran”, “nimble” dan “pivoted” kamu akan memberikan gambaran yang lebih dinamis dan beragam dibandingkan dengan menulis “was a manager” dan “decided”.

7.       Tanyakan tentang Interview

Kamu juga harus menanyakan tentang interview. Namun lakukanlah hal ini di akhir paragraf sebelum memberikan salam penutup.

Tentu saja menanyakan secara langsung terkait interview bisa terkesan canggung, tapi sangat penting untuk ada dalam surat lamaran kerja. Nah beberapa kalimat ini bisa kamu gunakan agar kamu menanyakan tentang interview secara tersirat:
